What’s Your Favourite Walking Route?

As we venture further into spring and closer to summer, the Irish weather has started to show hints of sunshine. Although many of us remain confined to our locality due to the current pandemic, many of us have taken up running, walking and cycling. Whether this is a dart through your local park or a hike up the local walking trail. What is your favourite walking route?

For myself, my favourite local route (within 2km of my home in Cavan) is the Bawnboy Mountain. Though while it’s no more a mountain than a glorified hill, this rural road provides an excellent location to walk the dogs or complete a brisk hike. For those who prefer more of a challenge, the route gives runners a strenuous cross-country experience. Most importantly, this location provides the most stunning elevated views of the surrounding parish of Corlough and a broader view of Templeport.

However, I currently find myself quarantined in Glasnevin, having stayed in Dublin after college came to an end. Despite the distance from my usual walking route, I have found a delightful alternative for both walking and cycling. Since then, I have captured such photographs as depicted below.

Every day, like many other people in Ireland, my social media feed is inundated with people successfully completing cycles, walks, and 5km runs within their 2km radius. Many complete this for their own wellbeing and physical health, or for charity. However, what is your favourite location to complete such endeavours? Eye on Éire wants to know the answer to the question – What’s Your Favourite Walking Route?
